Permanent correction

Exclusion Engineering

Close the building. Screens, seals, hardware, and detailing designed for prairie weather and real occupancy.

The discipline

Exclusion is construction, not pest control theatre. We specify and install the corrections that stop entry: door sweeps that actually meet the slab, vent screens that survive Chinooks, and sealant systems that move with the assembly.

Calgary punishes cheap exclusion. Acrylic caulk, plastic vent hoods, and garage seals that lift in a Chinook are how last year’s ‘pest-proofing’ becomes this year’s mouse. We spec stainless or galvanized mesh, hybrids that move, and hardware that can be replaced without a philosopher on site.

We will still bait or trap while a pathway is open. We will not pretend that is the product.

What’s included

  • Rodent-proofing of doors, docks, and grade transitions
  • Vent, soffit, and mechanical penetration screening
  • Weep, cladding, and below-grade detailing
  • Coordination with facility teams and contractors
  • Materials selected for Calgary freeze-thaw cycles

How the work runs

Four movements, applied to this discipline.

  1. 01

    Specify

Mesh, hardware, and sealant chosen for the assembly and for freeze-thaw — not foam in a can.

  2. 02

    Coordinate

Facilities, tenants, and other trades. Exclusion is construction. It needs a window, not a surprise.

  3. 03

    Install

Sweeps that meet the slab, vents that survive Chinooks, weeps that still drain, sleeves that no longer take a mouse.

  4. 04

    Prove

Photos of the closed joint. Monitoring points where the building used to fail.

You leave with

A file, not a fog of product names.

  • Material spec (mesh, modulus, hardware)
  • Installed exclusion at ranked pathways
  • Photo close-out per opening
  • Maintenance notes facilities can follow
  • Handoff into monitoring if the asset needs a record

Questions

About this discipline

Will this void a cladding or roof warranty?

We coordinate with the envelope and the manufacturer’s logic. The point of exclusion is to belong on the building, not to fight it.

Can our contractor install from your spec?

Often. Some clients want us to install; others want a spec they can tender. We will say which is honest for the detail.
